Hello, I’m Heather and I have a passion for family history research! I love exploring my own family tree, helping others explore their family trees, and endeavoring to convince people to let me teach them how to index old records.
My mom is responsible for my interest in family history and I am forever thankful. Long before I was in Kindergarten, she was the Director of our local Family History Center in the early 1990’s. I was brought along to the Family History Center regularly. Although the word microfiche was my favorite, I loved the roll film microfilm reader! The patrons always made it look so fun to turn the crank super-fast.
I didn’t understand yet that they were painstakingly searching for records of their ancestors. Records that were hopefully buried somewhere within these rolls of microfilm. With not a search engine in sight to help locate a keyword or two.
A part of me misses having those machines be a regular part of my week. Nevertheless, I am so very thankful for the technology and communication advancements that make it possible to do family history research online, faster than ever before. I am grateful for the ability to save family trees and research to the cloud, with the option to log in and continue work from multiple devices anywhere I have the internet.
One of my favorite things about family history research is the puzzle. I like looking for clues, deciding on my next steps, and figuring out how all the pieces fit together.
